George Wilson Pierson received his B.A. from Yale in 1926 and his Ph.D. in 1933. He became a member of the faculty of Yale University in 1926, holding the positions of professor of history, 1944-1946; Larned professor of history, 1946-1973; and emeritus since 1973.
